This LAN had the largest TMC turnout of any Lantrocity SF event. We had myself, Kraz, Gatekeeper, Manticore, FAngel, GotNoRice, Beebo, Honestplayer and QueMine. In fact, I believe this was the first LAN since GotNoRice and FAngel both joined TMC on July 31st, 2003.

FAngel was kind of a quiet guy that generally kept to himself. He was an admin with the LANtrocity / FLG group and definitely knew his stuff when it came to networking. He came to a lot of LAN events, he never really made much noise, and if you weren’t paying attention you might not even know he was there. He was a good guy though if you took the time to seek him out and talk with him. I went to his house a couple times and was amazed at the man-cave he had built for himself in his garage. Apparently he did a lot of work from home and built an office in the garage; he even had a T1 line going into it at one point. He also had storage racks full of all manner of tech gear. You could host a pretty large LAN event with just the stuff in his garage. A couple times he loaned me a huge bucket of cabling for some of the LANs I threw in Sonoma during my college days.

GotNoRice (Or GNR for short) was a prominent figure in LANing and was instrumental in bringing over the first members from LANtrocity and later on FLG. From the beginning he was heavily involved in the LAN scene happening in and around Sacramento and was an admin with LANtrocity.

He’s a smart guy and because he is so knowledgeable on a wide array of technical knowledge, his opinions carry a lot of weight.  So much so, that eventually members of TMC would refer to hardware as being GNR approved. A product being GNR approved generally meant that it was tested and checked out thoroughly by GNR and deemed to be a solid product.  This was useful to many members of TMC who didn’t have the time or patience to research every hardware purchase, and would simply ask “is it GNR approved?”.

GNR was also very good at presenting his opinions and making well thought out points on various matters (primarily via forum posts). He was great at cutting right to the heart of disputes that arose between members, and proposing reasonable solutions that would make everyone stop arguing and say “oh, yeah, that makes sense why didn’t we think of that solution sooner?”

After LANtrocity dissolved and the FLG community took its place; GNR and FAngel would stay active in both the TMC and FLG communities over the years. The two groups were not mutually exclusive as FLG was merely a community and not an organized Clan like TMC.  GNR would periodically promote TMC within the FLG community, and around the year 2008 TMC saw another influx of FLG members join the ranks of TMC.

Other memories of this particular LAN include our usual stop at the chicken wings resturant. Following our meal we discovered that Kraz's car, which we all nicknamed "The Krazmobile" would not start. Luckily we were able to call over QueMine and his classic mustang, which was able to give a jump to the Krazmobile and get it running again. .
