This typ0 lan took place at the residence of arch. This lan saw the recruitment of Kraz (and honestplayer a few days after), as well as the revival of Return to Castle Wolfenstien, which was played extensively. typ0, chose to abstain from the RTCW action, opting instead to watch [REDACTED], which was a very poorly produced [REDACTED] movie about… well I didn't stick around to find that out. Thankfully all the Mowers stuck to playing games the entire time.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein was a fantastic and criminally underrated LAN game. Definately something that should have gotten morew play at more LAN events.

The most important thing to happen at this LAN is that KraZ joined TMC.

I originally met Kraz at an Octane LAN (I cant remember which one, but I think it was either Octane 5 or 6). At that particuular LAN, I arrive already having a pretty terrible day, but hoping to forget about it with a weekend of LANning. I setup my machine and powered up, and promptly got the dreaded “disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter” error message. My hard drive was dead. This was pretty much the worst thing that could have happened in regards to my machine. This meant that not only were all my files lost, but I was going to miss out on the LAN which up till now had been the only silver lining in an otherwise shit-tastic day.

A guy I didn’t know was sitting to my left, and took an interest in my plight.  He had a big curly fro, big glasses and spoke with an outrageous French accent (He later told me the particular Octane LAN where we met was one of the first outings he did upon arriving in the US from France). Even more outrageous was his cobbled together PC case, that was essentially a shell with no doors, and covered in stickers.  To complete the look, there was a lot of random things drawn or written on it in sharpie, including “coasters happens!” scribbled onto his CD burner door. He went by Kraz and without me even asking, he was nice enough to stop what he was doing and focus on my PC issue. He took it upon himself to try ten different methods to retrieve my data even after I had already given up hope.

The reason I tell this story is because I found it to be completely impressive that Kraz put forth such a fantastically valiant effort to save the hard drive of a complete stranger like me.  I would find out as I got to know him that as much as he would go out of his way to help a stranger, he would go that much further to help his friends. He has proven time and again to be a class act and a true friend to not only myself but to the rest of the clan as well.

Kraz is also the smartest person I know, and possesses a vast amount of detailed knowledge in a wide variety of subjects ranging from technical and mechanical to artistic and cultural. He has an insatiable appetite for knowledge and if there is any subject that catches his interest, he will go about learning as much as possible about it and in no time will become an expert on the subject. He is the only person I know that can build a computer, an engine, and also have an intelligent discussion about art, fashion or european politics.  He also enjoys the occasional fart joke.

At a typ0 house LAN on April 11th 2003 I suggested to Kraz that he should join TMC and he enthusiastically agreed. This was then followed by two others within earshot (Beebo and Honestplayer) who immediately asked to join as well.  This was an interesting moment because it marked the very first time anyone had ever asked to join TMC. Up until that point I had to ask others to join, now they were asking me to get in.  This meant that TMC had gained enough notoriety among the community and a positive enough reputation for people outside of the group to want to be a part of it. TMC was officially no longer just a group of my friends, it was an entity unto itself.  From that point forward most of the future members of TMC asked to join, rather than be invited to join. Later this would result in the institution of a somewhat elaborate method of voting and acceptance to full membership known as The Mowers Militia (TMM).

Kraz soon became an integral part of TMC, not only has he become beloved by all the members;  with his technical and programming knowledge he was able to host the TMC website, and help administer the TMC message boards. His skill and motivation were so valuable that he became my right hand man within TMC. TMC could not have become what it did without the technical expertise of Kraz.
